Wordpress

I love Blogger, I really do. It was the first service I used to be acquired by Google. It actually brought me to love Google in many ways. However, the times have not kept up with Blogger, and even the "new" version is still behind the times. I recommend Wordpress. They have hosted, and self-hosted solutions and tons of advanced features. So if you want to start that new blog about crocheting cupcakes, why not give them a try?

I've been wanting to check out Typepad... have you had any experience with them at all?

No, but from a glance I don't see anything that they offer that Wordpress doesn't provide. Wordpress is also an open source project which makes it a tad bit cooler. Typepad is from Six Apart who always charges money for everything.

You can pretty much accomplish anything you want with Wordpress with plugins, themes, and css. They even have a multiblog setup as well if you are able to host it yourself.

Wordpress.com also just announced that they would be provide 3 gigs of free space for hosted accounts.

I can't say that either has a supreme advantage over the other. It's just preference.
